Because Recovery Shouldn't Mean Saying Goodbye
Your support ensures that beloved pets are placed in safe, loving foster homes while their guardians focus on healing, and that families can be reunited once treatment is complete. Your gift today will save lives.
Double Your Impact. Double the Love. Double the Lives Saved.
Emily Weiss, the inaugural funder of our Substance Use Recovery Program, will match every gift — dollar for dollar — up to $10,000 — in memory of her sister, between February 19 and March 5, 2026.
Emily partnered with PAWS NY in 2023 to launch this program in loving memory of her sister, Susan Sydney Weiss, who struggled with substance use disorder and died far too soon. Through it all, Susan’s beloved dogs, Nugget and Chance, were by her side, offering comfort, companionship, and unconditional love.
Today, Emily is honoring her sister by helping ensure that no one seeking recovery has to choose between treatment and the pet who means everything to them.
Your donation will help people entering treatment by ensuring their pets are safe, loved, and cared for during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
⏰ We have just two weeks to unlock the full match.
💛 Give today to double your impact for people and pets in crisis.
When Someone Is Ready for Treatment, Their Pet Should Be Safe
For many people seeking treatment for substance use, one question can stand in the way of recovery: “What will happen to my pet?” Without a safe option, too many people delay or forgo life-saving treatment out of fear for their animal’s well-being. PAWS NY’s Substance Use Recovery Program removes that barrier.
We provide temporary foster care for pets while their guardians are in treatment, keeping animals safe, loved, and out of shelters, and allowing people to focus fully on healing.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:
🐾 Pets are placed in vetted and loving foster homes
🏡 Animals stay safe and cared for during treatment, which includes help with all pet food and supplies, veterinary care, and other needs that may arise
💛 Families are reunited when guardians return home
Since launching the program in 2023, PAWS NY has provided more than 3,200 days of foster care, ensuring recovery doesn’t mean separation.
WHY YOUR GIFT MATTERS:
Demand for this program continues to grow, and right now, your generosity will be doubled.
Your support helps:
- Prevent pets from entering shelters
- Remove barriers to treatment
- Preserve the human–animal bond during times of crisis
Together, we can save lives, one person and one pet at a time.
